  • A PCPLS team member will contact you prior to your appointment time to confirm the date/time and gather any additional information needed for the appointment.
  • The scheduled appointment cannot exceed 1 hr.
  • If a team member is unable to "fix" the problem, an appointment may be rescheduled in order to do more research on the topic.
  • If you are unable to make your scheduled appointment time for any reason, please contact the library at 219-462-0524.
Guidelines for Notary Service
  • Documents to be notarized must be signed in front of the Notary. Do not sign them beforehand.
  • Documents to be notarized must be complete. Bring the entire document, not just the page(s) that needs to be signed.
  • All people signing the document(s) must be physically present to have their signature notarized.
  • Valid photo identification is required for each person signing the document. The following types of current(not expired) photo IDs are accepted: state-issued driver's license or ID card, passport, military ID, or an ID issued by a federally recognized Indian tribe. Your name on the ID must match the name on the document being notarized.
  • If your document requires witnesses, you are required to provide the witnesses. Library staff are unable to be a witness and you are not allowed to solicit witnesses on library property.
  • Notaries reserve the right to decline service if any of the above guidelines are not met, if there are concerns about the authenticity of the documents, or if the individual(s) signing the documents appear to be unaware of what they are signing or under duress.
  • PCPLS notaries do not have the license required to notarize real estate closings or mortgage loans that involve title insurance.
  • Note: Library staff cannot give any legal advice.
  • Patrons must provide a notarial certificate. Staff are unable to notarize documents without a notarial certificate.
